Inspired by the success of the 2006 Walk Across Massachusetts, in March 2008 I set out to realize a lifelong dream to Walk Across America. I brought a blank journal with me and over the next ten-and-a-half months I asked people I met across the country for their messages for the next president, be it Sen. Hilary Clinton, Sen. John McCain, or Sen. Barack Obama. As we know, President Obama won the 2008 election. In November 2011 I was invited to meet Pres. Obama in the Oval Office to hand him the books of messages. I walked, this time from Boston to Washington, D.C., once again collecting messages.
During the journey, I wrote short dispatches for my home newspaper, the Worcester Telegram and Gazette; you can read those stories here.
You can see all the messages from the four books here.
